Los números/Numbers

Today we explored numbers in both of our classes.

BEGINNERS:

Beginners continued practicing colors and we learned some basic cardinal numbers (1-12).

Please have your students practice numbers 1-15 (or if they are very ambitious, go ahead and have them learn up to 20). You can do this by watching the videos below, using this interactive link, or simply going over page 9 in your activity book (Rose Thomas).

Notice that after 15, numbers 16-19 are a combination of previously learned numbers with minor spelling variations: 16 = 10 y (and) 6 (dieciséis), 17 = 10 y (and) 7 (diecisiete) and so on.

INTERMEDIATE SPANISH

Today some forgot their composition while others forgot their display items (or both).
I know however, that you are all going to be "super-ready" for class next time, right?

Please, go over numbers 1-100 at this site. You already know those numbers. Please practice to improve your pronunciation.

Also, go over page 12 in your activity book (Cynthia Downs) and watch the video below. Please pay attention to irregular: quinientos, setecientos and novecientos.

Martes, 14 de enero: colores y adjetivos.

Hi, today we got to review numbers and dates (months) in class.

If you have a basic Spanish-English dictionary please bring it to class. If you prefer you can get free apps from the web. The Ascendo Spanish-English dictionary (free version) is more than enough for our beginners class. It is easy to search and provides the pronunciation of most words we will need in class this year. You can find it in both the Android market and iOS store. I will have some extra dictionaries in class for those who forget them, but you should try to make a habit of bringing your own dictionary to class from now on.

Next Tuesday I will pick up the list of words and expressions I distributed today: hola, gracias, por favor, etc. Try your best at completing it but please do not stress if there is something you don't know as we will work on it in class. We will also get to review adjectives and how they agree with nouns in gender and number. For example, el gato (cat) blanco becomes los gatos blancos in the plural while la gata blanca becomes las gatas blancas in the plural

white: singular: blanco (masculine) or blanca (feminine)
           plural:    blancos                   or blancas

Don't worry if it looks complicated at first, just watch the video below in preparation for class.

Monday, March 4th: Greetings, Numbers and Colors

Today we learned about colors, numbers and some basic greetings and introductions. Below are some links that you may want to use to reinforce what we covered in class.

For numbers (1-30) you can go to this interactive site,  or play this fun game (you can adjust the settings to match your skills). You can also watch the following videos if you wish.
